Scope and Contents

From the Series:

Summary: The Student Papers and Notes subseries contain materials related to Greven's undergraduate and graduate studies at Harvard and Columbia.

The Teaching subseries comprises Greven's lecture notes, syllabi, and course bibliographies. Undergraduate and graduate courses are included from both the University of British Columbia and Rutgers University. Lecture notes are helpful for getting an understanding of how Greven's classes were structured and what topics were discussed.

The Articles, Conference Papers, and Lectures subseries consist of papers written over the course of Greven's career. The academic papers concern mostly American History, specifically the colonial period. There are also papers relating to Greven's studies on child abuse.

Subseries C contains lecture notes, conferences papers and speeches. Early files deal with American History. Later files address child abuse and corporal punishment. Of interest to researches are Greven's notes for his speeches. The conference papers also provide important information concerning the both the study of American History and child abuse.

The final subseries contains reviews of Greven's published works. There are also drafts with comments on the unpublished manuscripts. A file on interviews for Spare the Child is also located in this series.
