Scope and Contents
Series 10: Artifacts contains plaques, trophies, awards, stamps, performance ephemera, and other items that can be traced to specific events or activities. It includes awards from the Pittsburgh Courier and NAACP, a Grammy nomination from her 1971 album Giants with Dizzy Gillespie and Bobby Hackett, rubber stamps used in marking her compositions and arrangements, buttons related to Monterey Jazz Festival, Dizzy Gillespie, and Alvin Ailey, bespoke matchbooks, and other items. There are additional religious figurines and statues, rosaries, and other religious items, as well as personal and household materials that are not referenced in this finding aid, though an inventory is available.
