Biographical Sketch

SYKES, George, a Representative from 'New Jersey; born near Sykesville, Burlington County, N. J., September 20, 1802; educated by private teachers; became a surveyor and conveyancer; elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-eighth Congress (March 4, 1813-March 3, 1845); elected to the Twenty-ninth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Samuel G. Wright, and served from November 4, 1815, to March 3, 1847; resumed his former pursuits: member of the council of properties of West. Jersey; member of the State assembly 1877-1879; died near Columbia, Mansfield Township, Burlington County, N. J., February 25, 18S0; interment in Upper Springfield Cemetery, near Wrightstown, N. J.
