Scope and Content Note
This collection represents the records of Congregation B'Nai Jacob (Passaic, N.J.), organized 1889, but at present clinging to a tenuous existence.
One-fourth of the records in MC 674 consists of Congregation MINUTES, 1908-1927, 1952-1956 and 1964-1967, and BY-LAWS, 1946. Another one-fourth represents the Seating Account, 1945-1979; a RECORD BOOK, 1926-1927, of the Building Committee; and MINUTES, 1946-1953, of the Daughters of the Congregation. The remaining half is composed of additional congregation ACCOUNT BOOKS in the form of Membership Ledgers, 1922-1924 and 1935-1958; Accounts of Monies Received, 1952-1956, and Disbursements, 1953-1957; and a circa 1954 Cemetery Maintenance Account.
Several of the ACCOUNT BOOKS correlate directly with each other. The Membership Ledgers record by individual what the volumes of Monies Received and Disbursements document by month. The Membership Ledgers, in fact, are cross-referenced to the Account of Monies Received. The Seating Account is a seat by seat record of fees which also appear in the Membership Ledgers and in the Disbursements and Monies Received Accounts. Sundry loose documents are inserted in most of the volumes.
