Scope and Contents
Ledger, 1834-1845 (bulk 1835-1839), of a chandler in Somerville (then part of Bridgewater Township), Somerset County, N.J., that pertains to the sale of candles and soap, sometimes in exchange for fat or ashes, and which includes an inserted index of personal names. The chandler, John M. Wyckoff, acquired full interest in the business (or, rather, its remaining outstanding accounts) from his partner Peter V. Wyckoff in June 1839.

Biographical / Historical
Wyckoff was born on November 3, 1787 and died on April 18, 1873. He had 7 children with his wife, Maria Voorhees (d. 1860). They lived in Milltown, N.J.
