Scope and Contents
Scrapbook, 1854-1928 (bulk 1907-1928), kept by David Lawrence Pierson that relates to local history and historical commemorations, especially in Essex County, N.J. Included are several dozen letters received, photographs, certificates, event programs, other ephemera, and press clippings, a few of which were written by the volume’s creator. Pierson resided in East Orange and was active in the Sons of the American Revolution. Among his correspondents are Lyman Whitney Allen (4 letters and 2 poems), Walter E. Edge (1 letter), A. Harry Moore (1 letter) and John Martin Thomas (4 letters). Persons appearing in the photographs, in addition to Pierson, include William Howard Taft. Among the items of ephemera present is a silk ribbon issued in connection with the 1892 centennial of Paterson, Passaic County, N.J.
