Scope and Contents

Papers pertaining to two unsuccessful New Jersey 5th District Congressional election campaigns in 1972 (against Peter Frelinghuysen) and in 1974 (against Millicent Fenwick), together with additional papers relating to New Jersey politics, apparently including materials relating to an exploratory committee for Bohen in 1977. Among the documents present are correspondence, financial records, lists of voters, promotional items, photographs, staff notes and press clippings.

Biographical / Historical

Frederick Martin Bohen lived from 1937 to 2015. Bohen worked at Princeton's Woodrow Wilson School starting in 1964. He would later move to Washington, D.C., where he worked on the White House domestic policy staff during the Lyndon B. Johnson administration as well as the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare (renamed to the Department of Health and Human Services while he was there) during the Jimmy Carter Administration. He twice ran as a Democratic candidate for Congress in New Jersey in the 1970s. He ended his career back in academic administration roles, first at the University of Minnesota, then at Brown University, and finally at The Rockefeller University.
