Scope and Contents
The records of the National Organization for Women (NOW) NJ Education Task Force consist of 4 bankers boxes materials dating from c. 1978 to 1987. The records were created by Sudan Cartun, who worked as the coordinator for the task force. The first three boxes in the collection are comprised of sex discrimination complaints in high school sports programs filed by NOW in various NJ counties from the late-1970s through the mid-1980s. The fourth box consists of guides, training materials, workshops, and other materials that help NOW administrators and staff to recognize, evaluate, and correct sexism in high school sports. Much of the material relates to understanding Title IX.

Abstract
Records kept by coordinator Susan Cartun which include sex equity complaints filed with the federal Office for Civil Rights against 135 New Jersey school districts, charging them with having inequitable high school athletic programs, together with related athletic data, newspaper coverage and information on the mandated changes for each district to bring it into compliance with federal Title IX requirements.
Arrangement
The first three boxes in the collection are comprised of sex discrimination complaints in high school sports filed by NOW in various NJ counties from the late-1970s through the mid-1980s. The folders in these boxes are (primarily) titled by town/city in each county and are arranged in alphabetical order. The last box consists of guides, training materials, workshops, and other materials that help NOW administrators and staff to recognize, evaluate, and correct sexism in high school sports. There is no discernable and/or logical arrangement in this box.
