Scope and Contents

Records of the New Jersey Council of Teachers of English, 1993-2018, consisting of (paper) conference files, subject files and publications, together with selected additional records in electronic format.

Though the New Jersey Council of Teachers of English was established in 1911, these records all date from the 1993-2018 period, with the bulk post-dating 1997. Conferences and publications are well-documented, though administrative records remain spotty. More recent (post-2007 administrative records and the newsletter, especially) are generated electronically and are not available in physical form.

Box I:

Conferences (21 folders, Spring 1997–Spring 2018):

Most folders contain only a program from the individual conference, but several also contain such items as registration lists, handouts, evaluations, and a series of letters written by conference attendees to the students at Parkland, FL high school concerning the mass shooting at that school. The series includes: Spring Conferences from 1997-1999, 2001-2002, 2006, 2008-2018; a Summer Conference in 2003; and Fall Mini-Conferences from 2011-2013 and 2017.

Publications (18 folders, 1996-2018):

Includes eleven file folders of the Focus newsletter, which was printed in physical form from 1997-2007. One file folder consists of a printout of E-Focus, the electronic successor to Focus, from 2011. Six file folders consist of English Journal for the following dates: 2003, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018.
