Biographical / Historical

Peter D. Vroom was a major political figure in New Jersey history. First as Attorney-General, and later as Governor of New Jersey,, he left an indelible mark on New Jrersey history. Later,, he served as a general in the New Jersey militia, and finally, served as an official envoy of the United States government to Prussia. While much of his family, both ancestors and descendants, were illustrious lawyers,, merchants, and political figures, none shone out so much in New Jersey history as did he.

Arrangement

In the Register, there are four series listed: Series I pertains to Box 194 of the Charles A. Philhower Collection (Ac. 1810), and the contents therein of the Vroom Papers. Series II, which is by far the largest,, pertains to the collected Vroom Papers, comprising the following: Ac 587, Ac 0.961, Ac 1733, Ac 1797, Ac 1799, Ac 1810 (preexcerpted parts on]y), Ac 1870, and Ac 2360. Series III comprises the items of Ac 2444, and Series IV covers Ac 3107. The series are subdivided by file number, and the files are arranged more or less chronologically. Indications are made, and arranged separately, where files are indexed, or unindexed, and the number of items in each folder is specifically noted. The only exception to this arrangement, in any way, is Series I, where files are not arranged chronologically, but only listed as they were filed within the box. Insofar as the linear size of the collection series are so small, and are measurable in terms of inches, this indication will not be made; only the number of boxes, where applicable, or the number of free-standing items, will be noted.
