Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The New Jersey Views Photograph Collection is a pictoral collection containing over 5000 photographs, prints, and other depictions of scenic views and locations around New Jersey. This collection is a compilation of miscellaneous items that have been collected over the years by Rutgers Special Collections. The majority of items are from the 20th century, along with some from the late 19th century. Most items are not dated nor is the photographer known. Subjects include cities, towns, buildings, roads, waterways, aeriel views, rural landscapes, beaches, gravestones, monuments, and many other scenic subjects.

The collection is arranged by county, then city, and then subject, when appropriate. If a city has five or more items, an individual folder was made. Items that can be identified by town but do not have enough to warrent their own folder, or are only identifiable by county, have been placed in a folder labeled A-Z, Misc. at the end of the county series. At the end of the entire series are miscellaneous folders for gravestones, bridges, and New Jersey miscellany. The largest series is for New Brunswick, comprising over 100 folders, which is then arranged by subject.

This collection is not open to new additions.
