COMPUTER LETTERS,, 1975-1977, 1983-1985 and 1987-1994

Summary: Computer-generated form letters on various subjects sent as replies to constituents who had written to Hughes. The letters contain a brief summary of Hughes’ position and his current actions on the relevant issue, and often contain annotations and remarks by Hughes and his staff. Some letters from the 1980s and 1991-1992 were apparently written by Hughes’ staff in reply to individuals’ specific concerns.

A small number of “Dear Colleague” letters signed by Hughes that deal with domestic issues are included from 1975-1977. “Dear Colleague” letters are also included from 1993-1994; they are chiefly concerned with international issues.
