EDITORIAL CORRESPONDENCE, 1978 - 2006

The bulk of the collection is comprised of material relating Fine's work as editor and founder of the Woman's Art Journal. Editorial correspondence from 1978 to 2006 make up the bulk of the material and document research, writing, and what goes into publishing the Woman's Art Journal from this time. The documents found in the editorial correspondence series include correspondence, photographs, drafts of articles, research material, and more, depending on the correspondent. The majority of the folders are labeled by correspondent, but there are a number of folders that also include the subject of their correspondence.

The Woman's Art Journal Series also includes subscription lists from 1986 through 2005. These subscription lists were printed twice a year, corresponding with the issues published, listing those who subscribe to the journal with special note of those whose subscritpion is expiring. The main purpose of these subscription lists appear to have been to keep track of expiring subscriptions, however they also document the reach of the Woman's Art Journal through these years.

Furthermore, in this series, there is documentation on the early years of the journal's publication and the reception by the art world in the form of reviews, letters, and mailings. Fine collected publicity and reviews from newspapers and magazines, as well as letters of support upon the launch of the journal.

There are a number of documents regarding the American Women Artists Exhibition that was shown in 1989 and 1990 to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the publication of the Women's Art Journal. American Women Artists: The 20th Century was shown at the Knoxville Museum of Art in Tennessee, and at the Queensboro Community College Art Gallery in Bayside, New York. The exhibition featured pieces by more than 40 artists and was intended to show a variety of artists and styles by women artists in the 20th century. Artists included in this exhibition include Anna Mary Robertson Moses (aka Grandma Moses), Clementine Hunter, Theresa Bernstein, Peggy Bacon, Georgia O'Keeffe, Louise Nevelson, and more. Material in this sub-series include correspondence, press, photographs, the exhibition catalog, and a VHS of the show in Queensboro, NY.

Also of note in this series is the material regarding the publication of Volume 25, Number 1, which was published in 2004. These documents show some of the work that went into publishing one issue of the Women's Art Journal, and how long the process might take. Material found here include edited articles, corrected galley proofs, a dummy issue, and a completed issue.

Furthermore, there are a number of photo proofs used in various issues of the Women's Art Journal. These are primarily undated and unsorted, but serve as documentation of how photographs are marked up for publication and, in some cases, the origin of the photograph.
