"Marjorie Strider 1972-74.," exh cat, (Weatherspoon Art Gallery, The University of NC at Greensboro).
Scope and Contents
Exhibition shown October 16-November 10, 1974 at the Weatherspoon Art Gallery. In the forward, Lucy Lippard indicates that "despite her (Strider's) involvement in performances and progressive readings, there is no resemblance to the cult of permutatuons except the intelligence way behind the scenes."
Forward by Lippard expresses interest in the "eroticism, ... inelegant assertion of the flesh" of Strider's work. Selected biography includes two articles from Lucy Lippard: "Six Years" from 1973, and "Pop Art" from 1966.
Performance
Strider's bold use of color, contemporary commodity images/objects, and contemporary technology classifies her as a "Pop" artist. Her selected biography includes an article from 1966 by Lippard entitled, "Pop Art".
