Scope and Contents

Summary: Types of documents include photographs [in black and white and in color, formal portraits, snapshots, Polaroids, color photocopies], negatives [with and without contact sheets], and slides [including transparencies]. There are also prints that have been altered by Lerman by cutting and pasting and drawing.

This series graphically documents Lerman's family and friends, activities, travels, and artistic interests. The bulk of the images are from her two years in Japan on a Fulbright-Hayes research grant between 1963 and 1965.

The contact sheets with the negatives offer the most complete set of images of photographic prints. Slides of France and India and Mexico are also comprehensive in scope. These were likely used in presentations and lectures done by Lerman, as were the slides in the Art by Others files.

While most of the photographic materials are grouped in this series, there are a few that were kept with corresponding documents. For example, photographs can be found in files on published articles by Lerman and in project files.

Oversized items are listed at the end of the series.
