Scope and Contents

Summary: Documentation of both Cahill's actions and interests, mostly on the behalf of his constituents, regarding various topics and legislative agendas, as well as documentation of the day-to-day operations of Cahill's Congressional offices. Recurring topics include the Campbell Soup Company, civil rights, the Delaware River Port Authority, local newspapers, New Jersey State departments, the New York Shipbuilding Corporation, the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, the Record Corporation of America (RCA), and various Republican committees. Recurring files on the day-to-day operations include files on the Clerk and Doorkeeper of the House, congratulatory letters, extensions of remarks, invitations, office appointments and visitors, interoffice communications, political files, and whip notices, as well as various constituent requests, including requests for information on specific programs and legislation and aid in seeking employment. Included in the series are incoming an outgoing letters and telegrams, birth records (from hospitals in his district), committee prints, Congressional Record excerpts, memoranda, newsletters, press releases, published reports and speeches.

Among the documents in this series are files entitled "Medical Manpower," totaling one cubic foot, pertaining to a shortage of medical personnel from 1967 and 1968.

Also included in this series is a collection of documents relating to the availability of fallout shelters from 1962 and 1963.
