Scope and Contents

Summary: Documentation of legislation, proposed by members of Congress other than Cahill, brought before the House of Representatives during Cahill's terms in office. Included in the series are letters between Cahill and his constituents and Congressional colleagues, bills, committee prints, memoranda and occasional newsletters and publications from various constituencies.

Topics of the files range from general to specific. General legislative topics, found throughout the series, include appropriations, civil rights, education, labor, mass transit, Medicare, pollution, school prayer, Social Security and vivisection. More specific topics include the House Un-American Activities Committee (1965-1966), the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (1963-1964), the proposed repeal of the Taft-Hartley Act (1965-1966), the Tocks Island Recreation Area (1965-1966) and the Vietnam Conflict (1963-1964).
