Scope and Contents
Summary: Public bills, private bills and joint resolutions introduced in the House of Representatives by Cahill. The legislation in this series pertains to numerous subjects, such as civil rights, Delaware River crossings, interstate commerce, national cemeteries, obscene literature, veterans' hospitals and wage taxes. Included in this series are copies of bills, correspondence, committee prints and testimony of interested parties.
Among the pieces of legislation in the series are the Civil Rights Act of 1963, which proposes making the Civil Rights Commission a permanent agency of the federal government (H.R. 3141); the Equal Rights Act of 1963, which prohibits racially segregated business activities (H.R. 6721); a proposed constitutional amendment barring discrimination based on gender (H.J. 415, 1961, and H.J. 236, 1963); the Federal Civil Rights Crimes Act of 1966 (H.R. 15521); a proposed constitutional amendment empowering the President to name a new Vice President should the sitting Vice President be removed from, step down from, or die in office (H.J. 922, 1964); and a proposed constitutional amendment ending double taxation by prohibiting states from collecting wage taxes from non-residents (H.J. 31, 1961, H.J. 130, 1963 and H.J. 127, 1965).
