Scope and Contents

Summary: Limited documentation of Cahill's first campaign for Governor of New Jersey. Subjects addressed in this series include, but are not restricted to, drug trafficking and control, public and higher education, coastal pollution, pornography and the potential construction of a major international airport in New Jersey. Included in the series are position papers and statements, press releases, speeches and speech research files in the form of government reports and publications.

Among the speeches is a June 1969 address before the House of Representatives on the shortcomings of tobacco industry self-regulation. This speech also calls for the resignation of Robert B. Meyner, Cahill's gubernatorial opponent, as administrator of the Cigarette-Advertising Code, Inc., which oversaw cigarette advertisement regulation at the time.
