Lubell 10/2: 54
Watercolor (with ink) landscape of a small section of hilly pasture, with houses and telephone poles dotting the space. Work appears somewhat similar to impressionist work, with a general lack of concrete definition to create a sense of contiguous movement and undulating light. Black ink is used for the few concretely-defined figures in the image: the (incomplete) outlines of the houses, telephone poles, and a single silhouette of a person, possibly with crutches. The image is painted on half of a thin, folded paper. On the inside sheet (behind the watercolors) is a set of splotches of watercolor that were absorbed by and dried in the back. The notes provided by the artist’s family indicate the location as Truro (Massachusetts).
