Scope and Contents

Lubell 10/1: 8

Watercolor (with pen and ink) of a valley in the shadow of a California mountain range. Pen ink used largely for foreground trees, as well as crosshatching on the mountainside (which works in tandem with the light brown watercolor to simulate the ridges). Aside from the blue from the sheet itself, color range is largely limited to browns and greens, albeit with some white for the sky. The “valley” might actually be a lake; one of the grass patterns near the bottom of the mountain may be reflected on it, and the brown watercolor around it the bank. Painted on blue page torn out of an artist’s sketchbook.
