ARTWORK,

Scope and Contents

Summary: The items in this series are either completed signed and dated artworks, artworks that may be complete, experimental artworks used for preparation, or other Preparatory materials that were manipulated by Schapiro. Because it was unclear what was a "finished" artwork and what was preparatory, no distinction has been made and each item is referred to as an "artwork". Preparatory artwork images can be found in the born digital Photographs series, the physical photograph series, and slides.

Each oversized artwork housed in the map drawers has been given an identifying number. For example: MSA001 is Miriam Schapiro Artwork 001 and can be found in Drawer 5 and Folder 2 according to the list below. Identifying numbers can be found in the bottom right hand corner on the reverse-side of the artwork, with one or two exceptions.

Items within each subseries are loosely arranged chronologically. Where there was no evidence of date, original order was kept.
