Scope and Contents
Summary:Schapiro collected her thoughts on a number of topics, which are well documented in this series. Including: lists of dinner parties, bibliographies, to-do lists, poems, notes to remember, lecture notes, doodles, diary entries, unpublished essays, published essays/articles, autobiographical sketches, writings for unpublished children's book, poems, and artist statements. The series is largely on paper, some on large index cards. Related Series: Diary/Sketchbooks/Notebooks. Of special interest are the autobiographical writings. Over the course of several decades, Schapiro attempted to write an autobiography detailing her personal history, her art, and her involvement with the feminist movement. It was never published.

Arrangement: The series is divided into two subseries, Unpublished and Published Writings. Most documents in these subseries are undated. Therefore, the subseries are arranged by subject matter. It could be argued that most of the writings are somewhat autobiographical, but original order was followed.
