Arrangement
Arrangement: Following original order the series is separated into two large groups: Correspondence, and Business Correspondence. Within each group the documents are arranged in two ways. First, both types of correspondence are largely arranged chronologically by year. Second, individuals and institutions that were separated by Miriam Schapiro are arranged alphabetically by surname. Additionally, Schapiro created categories of correspondence like "Family" and "With Women" that have been kept, and placed before the individuals. Oversized materials were physically separated into appropriate storage and are listed at the end of the series for clarity. Two letters were originally framed, and possibly displayed in Schapiro's home. They were both removed from their frames and placed in oversized storage.
General
Appraisal and Discard Information: Materials in this series arrived with a strong musty odor. Items that were photocopies or printed from a computer were re-photocopied and the originals were discarded. Other items were ultimately placed in micro-chamber folders.
