Lubell 4/9: 277a-b
Two small ink drawings. Sketches of [the village of Delphi in Greece], showing houses set on a hillside. These are one of two sets (see also Lubell 278a-c) of preliminary sketches of village scenes that were then translated into woodblock prints. The ultimate woodblock scene shows a wider angle of the scene, including a winding road and distant hills. For the woodblock print, see Lubell 279a-b. The possible title was listed in the original information given by the family. The drawing Lubell 377 is an ink sketch of the same scene, finished with watercolor.
