Scope and Contents
Lubell 3/8: 174
One of eight ink drawings of people participating in a WPA sit-in strike, and originally housed in a folder labelled “Sit-down strike 1935 or ’36, Chicago”. Each is of a different subject, but all are similar designs, with thick black lines and little shading. This is of a woman sleeping either on a pile of clothes or on another, unseen person. White gouache covers changes in the design. Sizing notations in pencil. Signed W. Milius. On verso is a drawing of a man sleeping, pillowed on another sleeping man. See Lubell 172-181 for drawings in the Chicago sit-in, sit-down strike or sit-in protest.
