Asa - Lee,, [1939]

Dates

  • [1939]

Scope and Contents

Lubell 3/7: 170

One of eight black ink and wash drawings (with gouache) from a folder titled Spanish Ballet Costumes, with an additional notation “for Benjamin Zemach, N.Y.C., 1939.” These drawings are of various characters and costumes, presumably done for a New York performance piece. Each identifies the character portrayed. This piece, identified by the names of the two characters, Asa and Lee, is of two women dancing, one facing forward and the other back. Both are partially painted, in brownish red and gray, and partially ink outline. White paint covers outlining errors or earlier versions of the drawings. A sticky note with “Zemach” written on it was in the upper left corner, but has been removed to prevent degradation of the paper from the glue on the note. See Lubell 164-171 for similar drawings.
