Scope and Contents

Lubell 3/4: 140

Ink and wash drawing (with watercolor) of three children and three adults on a farm. Like many of the pieces here, the inks make exaggerated but pleasing caricatures (with some cases, such as the man's exceptionally veiny feet). The color work has deep reds and light greens and yellows for the chickens, plants, and clothes. Borders are used exclusively for figures and architecture, with no clear distinction between land and sky. Signed W. Milius. Drawn on illustration board, which itself is mounted on a cloth-covered mat of heavier board. Lubell 138-146 are of similar subjects and dates, with the medium for some focusing more on watercolor and others more on line drawings in pen or graphite pencil.

25.3 x 40.8 cm

Drawing without mat measures 22.4 x 35.2 cm
