Scope and Contents
Summary:This series consists of 24 sketchbooks ranging in date from 1952-2003. Drawings in the sketchbooks are in graphite, ink, and ink and wash. Subjects range from family members to vacation locations, various portraits and studies, calligraphy and needlework. Many had loose sketches, clippings or notes inserted among the pages. Notes at the end of many sketchbooks are often reference books, addresses or recipes, as well as technique notes and notes on various works or publications. Most sketchbooks had a note identifying an SK number, applied by either Ms. Lubell or a family member. While these notes were removed due to the potential for damage by the note adhesive, the SK number has been noted in the description of each sketchbook. The sketchbooks are organized by the first date associated with the sketchbook. Several oversized books included in the chronological listing are housed at the end of the series. Identifying Rutgers Lubell numbers written in the upper right corner of the inside back cover and on slips inserted at the front of each sketchbook. Measurements are height x width x thickness in centimeters.
