Scope and Contents

Summary: Documents CR's political and consumer oriented interests in the labor movement in the U.S and the National Labor Relations Board. Mostly a clipping file, these records concern the growth of trade unionism, union corruption, alleged communist or leftist ties to labor, the National Labor Relations Board, and right to work laws. Most of the material was collected after CR's own strike in late 1935 and was used to bolster CR's stand on unions. A large section of this series documents organized labor's relations and effects on consumer products and prices. Includes correspondence, notes, news and magazine clippings and other publications. Subjects include Labor, Labor Education & Training, Trade Unions, Union Suppression, Left-Wing Unionism, Congress of Industrial Organizations (CIO), CIO Communist Link, Increasing Opposition to Labor & Labor Violence, American Federation of Labor (AFL), Communists in the AFL, Unionization of Professional Experts, Strikes, Anti-Labor Attitudes and Practices, Labor Conditions & Labor Policies in Industry, Unemployment, Technological Unemployment, Labor in Relation to the Consumer, Labor, Capital & the General Polity vs. the Consumer, Labor vs. Agriculture, Labor vs. Labor, 1937-1938 & Labor Against Government, and Labor vs. Veterans. The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) files contains an extensive file on the Board's history, case histories and Board personnel. Other material on the NLBR is included in CR's Strike Records series.
