Letters Received From friends (Eleanor and others)

Scope and Contents

Summary: One letter is dated July 1, 1884 from Fort Adams, Rhode Island and indicates that Ellen is nearby and a visit should be arranged. Signature is unreadable.

Two letters are from a woman called Eleanor. The first, dated June 25, 1893 congratulates Ellen on her engagement to Dr. Wilson. The second is dated December 30, 1936 and is addressed to Ellen at 315 Lenox Avenue in South Orange, New Jersey. The letter discusses various family members in Eleanor's and Ellen's family, particularly how Ellen's sister Florence has had her life "wrecked."

A letter dated Aug. 7, 1893 comes from Eliza J. Todd (it seems likely she is related to the C.C. Todd who writes a letter to Henry in 1900) congratulating Ellen on her engagement and remarking how Ellen and her sister are engaged around same time.

A letter dated May 1899 comes from a shipmate of Henry's who tells her that Henry has read portions of her letters to him. She seems to have helped him with his stamp collection, for which he is grateful. Signature looks like Ashley St. Robertson (and Henry's letters in 1899 mention a shipmate named Robertson).
