Dates

  • 1897, 1901, 1910

Scope and Contents

Summary: Michigan Lands, 1897-1899, 1905-1906

As with the earlier investments in Michigan there are also tax receipts for Mr. Phelps' estate. There are a total of four folders that are arranged chronologically. Then there are also four folders with correspondence with individuals who appear to be agents residing in these lands in Michigan. Some of the letters are addressed to Jacob S. Wetmore and they detail tax valuations. It appears that as the years went by the price of taxes for Mr. Phelps' estate was changing, and Mr. Wetmore and the agents in Michigan were writting letters discussing these changes in the tax structure.

Wisconsin Lands, 1906

One folder. Correspondence with a C. W. McFarland discussing taxes and the construction of a railroad through these lands.

New York and Texas Land Company, 1901, 1910

One folder in all with two items. One is a pamphlet regarding the issuance of certificates, and the other is a letter, with a duplicate copy, regarding John S. Kennedy, now deceased at this time and former Treasury Secretary of the Company.
