Scope and Contents

Summary: Letter Books, 1894-1912

A total of four books owned by Mr. Phelps' legal agents. As with the letter books earlier in the series, these letter books deal with personal affairs and well-recorded accounts of taxes and investments. They are well-kept, methodical accounts of the legal agents' everyday personal, business, and legal affairs.

Letters Received, 1893-1905

Five folders in all, these are letters addressed to Mr. Phelps' legal agents. One folder contains numerous letters written by Mr. Phelps' wife, Ellen Sheffield Phelps, to William Bond. The letters addressed to Phelps' legal agent William Bond cover a wide variety of topics. One letter is written to Mr. Bond regarding his mother's death, other letters pertain to Mr. Phelps estate, and there are also writings discussing issues about stocks. There are two folders that are written to Thomas White, an attorney. Apparently he is receiving letters to the President of the New York and Texas Land Company, Ira Evans, so Mr. White is in some way connected to the company. There is also a folder with letters addressed to Mr. White regarding a judgeship appointment in Texas.
