Dates

Scope and Contents

Summary: Documentation of the activities of Sisters in Crime during the vice-presidency and presidency of Elaine Raco Chase as kept by Raco Chase. The records pertain to a variety of subjects, including major conventions, the Sisters in Crime writers retreat, steering committee issues, local chapters, the Internet chapter, finances, nonprofit status, by-laws, publicity, newsletter articles, SinC projects, trademark protection and SinC's archives. Included in the records are correspondence, news clippings, facsimiles, e-mails, broadsides, booklets, brochures, surveys, newsletters, catalogs, post cards and greeting cards.

Of particular interest are folders regarding the one-time collaboration in 1996 between SinC and Buffcon, the Buffalo Mystery Convention, which explain how the convention coordinator became interested in hosting SinC and the details that went into putting on this convention. Also of interest is information included in the Conference folder regarding the organization's first writers retreat, Murder My Sweet held in Houston in 1995, and the follow-up survey completed by members regarding their opinions on the conference. The large quantity of publicity information located within this series displays how the organization allowed each president to focus on particular duties that interested her, in addition to the primary presidential responsibilities, and how committee members contributed to the duties designated to other committee members. Also of interest is general, often informal, correspondence between SinC officers, past and present, regarding issues within the organization.

Raco Chase's records contain a great deal of copy for issues of the newsletter, yet it is unclear whether or not all of these draft articles were published, or in what form they appeared.
