PUBLICITY CHAIR'S FILES,, 1991-1995.
Dates
- 1991-1995.
Scope and Contents
Summary: Documentation of the activities of Sisters in Crime's publicity chair, Elaine Raco Chase, during the years she served in this capacity. The majority of the records pertains to the various publicity efforts put forth by Raco Chase for which SinC presented her with the Athena Reward. Also included is information regarding local chapters, the Internet chapter, major conferences, SinC projects, nonprofit status and the steering committee. Included in the records are correspondence, press releases, brochures, information packets, minutes, broadsides, postcards, newsletters, facsimiles and news clippings.
Of particular interest is Raco Chase's correspondence with the White House, beginning in February of 1993, regarding Sisters in Crime's donation of autographed mystery novels and the coordination of a possible appearance by President Clinton to accept these books, which never materialized. In the June and July 1993 Correspondence folders, letters explain the difficulties with this process in more detail and how the donation ended up being housed in the Camp David collection instead of in the White House Library. Steering committee correspondence regarding this matter is included in the September 1993 folder. Also of interest are the Los Angeles chapter's Ransom Notes and the American Crime Writers League's Bulletin newsletters, which display issues dealt with by a local chapter within SinC and by a separate organization for writers of mystery fiction. Located in the May Correspondence folder is a contract between Mae Woods and Meryl Marshall Productions, Inc., and the Sisters in Crime regarding a proposed television program series using the SinC name.
Within this series are documents postdating Raco Chase's service as publicity chair (i.e., after October of 1994), the majority of which consist of news clippings within the Public Relations and Advertisements folder.
