SECRETARY'S FILES,, 1991-1993.
Dates
- 1991-1993.
Scope and Contents
Summary: Documentation of activities of Sisters in Crime's secretary, Barbara D'Amato, during her service in this office, and materials she collected during that time. The majority of the records pertain to SinC membership and SinC local chapters, but others topics include newsletters, steering committee issues, projects, finances, nonprofit status and conferences. Included in the records are correspondence, memoranda, news clippings, facsimiles, newsletters, broadsides, press releases, by-laws, greeting cards, reports, minutes and brochures.
Of particular interest is the information regarding the formation of chapters, initial problems that arose and how the organization dealt with those problems. One item in particular is a letter that D'Amato submitted to Pat Carlson in September of 1992 suggesting smaller chapters, area reports in the newsletter, less cumbersome chapter formation, local officers to be national members and a chapter liaison. Also of interest is information about the activities of specific chapters, such as reading and writing groups and local library support, as well as the Mid-Atlantic chapter's by-laws, both located in the February 1993 folder.
