Scope and Contents
Summary: Documentation of the activities of Sisters in Crime collected by P.M. Carlson during six of the years of her membership in the organization, including while she held the offices of secretary, vice-president and president. The records relate to a variety of subjects, including projects, interest groups, local chapters, newsletters, finances, and the steering committee. Included in the records are letters received, facsimiles, newspaper clippings and press releases.
Of particular interest is correspondence outlining Sisters in Crime's participation in the Convocation for Literacy, sponsored by St. Johns Institute for Arts and Letters and Rutgers University. In addition, documents regarding issues brought before the steering committee are located in the files and show the process of decision making within the organization. Although Carlson held the offices of secretary, vice-president and president from 1990-1993, included within this series are documents postdating these years, including news clippings, correspondence regarding Sisters in Crime's salute to Phillis A. Whitney (the past MWA president who wrote a letter to the MWA regarding sexual discrimination in the awarding of the Edgar Awards), Carlson's service on the nominating committee and proposed by-laws changes.
