Scope and Contents

Summary: Documentation of steering committee meetings and business meetings as recorded by the secretary. These meeting records pertain to all proposals discussed and voted upon during the business meetings, at which all members were invited to attend, and the steering committee meetings, at which only the organization's officers met. These records provide insight into the types of issues and proposals brought before each body, how they were resolved and which members were most active in the operations of the organization during particular years. To clarify, Sisters in Crime holds business meetings, also referred to as membership meetings, twice a year, once in the Spring in New York, in conjunction with the Mystery Writers of America convention, and the again in the Fall, in conjunction with the Bouchercon convention. During the Fall meeting, the annual election of steering committee officers takes place. The steering committee also meets twice a year and, according to the by-laws, is to meet within seven calendar days prior to the membership meetings. During the spring steering committee meeting the nominating committee is appointed to select candidates for the fall elections. The majority of meeting minutes between 1991 and 1997 are accounted for in these records.
