Scope and Contents

Summary: Incoming and outgoing letters primarily involving Richardson's support, membership and contributions to various social and political organizations such as the American National Red Cross, Brooklyn Civilian Defense Volunteer Office and the American Cancer Society. Also included are requests for letters of recommendation and Richardson's responses, as well as letters of congratulations from Richardson on others' social, political and professional appointments and achievements. Although there are some personal letters from friends and associates present, the correspondence provides very limited insight into Richardson's private life.

While much of the correspondence represents various letters of solicitation of donations, social invitations and responses, letters of congratulations to political and professional figures and letters of recommendation for others, certain more unusual letters are present; they are highlighted in the folder list.
