Scope and Contents
The Richmond to start this evening and Capt. Center will inform you how far he reaches and the state of the River. Legal advice sought concerning the carrying of letters to Albany. Discussion of mail contract and foul play, rumors that the Olive Branch had contract, that Mr. Thayer has the contract. Mr. Lynch reports that case No. 70 is being argued, that Mr. Webster had again asked the court to take up the steamboat cause but nothing was done, that there is hardly a chance of its coming on this season. Postscript: Pencilled note of Capt. Center's reporting River to be full of ice from Coldwell's to Cold Spring, much difficulty in getting thus far and necessity of going down to Denings Dock to lay over till tomorrow.
