Dates

  • 1822, December 12

Scope and Contents

Report of cross beam of Richmond giving way last night just above West Point and the handling of the situation. Expect navigation to close in a few days. The business of the Company is apparently to take its own course as Mr. Livingston doubts his ability to come down and the time scheduled for the board meeting has passed. Severe criticism of this negligence and lack of interest in the business by the officers and directors is expressed. Request that Rhind's accounts be examined as they should be and if no board is formed, that Mesrrs. Lynch and Thomson be appointed a committee to examine any accounts. Complaint that the second year has now expired during which Rhind has devoted himself to the interests of the Company without even a statement of amount of remuneration that should be given for these services and request for a settlement. Colden and Townsend only directors who have knowledge and appreciation of the task Rhind has accomplished. Recounting of Rhind's services and statement that he conceives his appointment ended at last day of this month, that he will see boats tied at wharf, accounts in order to date &c. Suggests that Captains of boats be left to superintend needed repairs end that measures be taken to secure the mail contract which expires next spring. Models and estimates for new boat secured the prices listed herein with emphasis on the best being Blossoms. Am looking out for lumber, it will make 8 difference of 15% to get it now besides getting a better quality.
