Refers to Rhind's letter from Mr. Livingston and his reply, a copy of each being enclosed herewith. Amazement shown At R.L.L.'s and Walter Livingston's desire to delay repairs. Suggests a meeting of the board be called immediately. Lynch approves plans for repairs. Request for charcoal repeated. Refers to order for tallow. Statement for September evinces a sad falling off. Recent illness continues me in a feeble state. Enclosure: Copy or letter of 3 Oct. l822, Robert L. Livingston to Charles Rhind which comments upon possible repairs to the boats with necessity for e meeting of directors if extensive repairs are required. Suggests that Townsend wait until the directors authorize the alterations. Enclosure: Copy of letter written on inside pages of above enclosure, 5 Oct.l822, Charles Rhind to Robert L. Livingston, which is a reply to R.L.L's. letter of 3rd in defense of advice concerning need of repairing the boats before cold weather sets in, the condition of the Chancellor &c., reiterating his points and recommendations. Both enclosure letters are ALS.
