Congratulations offered on turn of affairs with hopes that this will deter further attempts to destroy those rights "which are sacred, if anything like Sovereignty is allowed the State." Report on Richmond & Chancellor. Extract of letter from Colden, Washington, March: Conversation with Pinkney who understands case and is confident of decided opinion on our favor. Some dissention among opposite council, Mr. Webster has with-drawn from cause and it is to be argued by Ogden and the Attorney General Mr. Wirt. Copy of letter from Colden, 7th March stating Cause of Gibbon vs. Ogden has just been disposed of by Supreme Court of U.S. Appeal of Gibbon has been dis-missed on ground that Decree of the Chancellor was not such as would warrant the appeal. Our cause with Sullivan will not be brought up unless we consent to make the case of Sullivan better than they have made it by their Bill. They call upon us to admit what are not facts, without which, they will not dare to bring on the cause. If they do, they wil1 be defeated in as little time as Gibbon has been.
