Scope and Contents
Summary: Documentation of printed items, both promotional and non-promotional, created for Lenox, Incorporated, as well as general reference and administrative files kept by the Creative Services Department.
General Lenox Printing: Arranged alphabetically by folder title (titled primarily by document type).
Documentation of printed items of various formats created for Lenox, Incorporated. Types of printed items represented include brochures, catalogs and catalog inserts, contest entry forms, gift and savings certificates, logos, pattern coordination charts, postcards, product labels and tags, new dealer kits, sales training kits, terms of sale forms, store signage, internal corporate documents and occasional advertisements. Included are finished samples of the printed products, as well as supporting documentation in the form of hand-written notes, invoices and contracts from outside vendors, interoffice memoranda, incoming and outgoing letters, and printing requisition forms. While most folders pertain to a single printed item, those labeled as "Permanent File" can reference printed items on a single topic over a course of decades.
Among the printed matter is a sequence of materials relating specifically to Kirk Stieff silver products.
Included in this sub-series are working copies of The Walter Scott Lenox Story and a history of Lenox China.
Also included in this sub-series are general reference files related to the Creative Services operation, such as color samples, proposed pattern names, promotional material, production statistics, consumer inquiry reports, files on competitors' printed items, and solicitations and profiles of vendors and publications (Novias: The Bridal Magazine and Atwood Richards, Inc.).
Also included in this sub-series are files not directly related to the operation of Creative Services, such as general office memoranda (on topics such as office closures and casual days), organizational announcements (such as new appointments, promotions and changes in organizational structure) and one folder on California Proposition 65 (regarding lead content in ceramics).
Lenox Retail Postcards: Arranged in rough chronological order by production or mailing date.
Postcards, primarily announcing sales at Lenox Factory Outlets and at the Clearance Centers in Cranbury and Pomona, New Jersey. Included are samples of completed postcards, as well as scattered supporting documentation, mostly in the form of color transparencies and occasional invoices from third-party graphics vendors.
