Scope and Contents

Summary: Publications, mostly of a promotional nature, produced by or for Lenox, Incorporated. The publications, often targeting either consumers or sales clerks, pertain to several subjects, including bridal gifts and registries, china and crystal manufacturing and use, the Lenox Centennial, collectors' clubs, contests, promotional films, tableware pattern coordination and company history. Included in the series are brochures, invitations and announcements, contest entry forms, display cards and small signs, product instructions, event programs, product labels and tags, stationery and packaging samples, as well as two published books.

Among the ephemeral publications are two hardcover books, Lenox China: The Story of Walter Scott Lenox by George Sanford Holmes (1924) and The Lenox Book of Home Entertaining and Etiquette by Elizabeth K. Lawrence (1989), as well as a magazine article entitled "Fine China--That's Their Dish," originally published in Nation's Business (January 1950) and later edited into the derivative handout "Lenox China--The First Hundred Years" (circa 1985 and circa 1991). In addition to its original publication in 1924 and subsequent reprintings, Lenox China: the Story of Walter Scott Lenox was excerpted and distributed as a handout over the years, examples of which can be found with the original full text.

Other ephemeral publications exist as POSTERS AND DISPLAY MATERIALS. Additional series incorporating many items of ephemera, usually not also duplicated in the present series, are DEALER MAILINGS, PRINTING RECORDS, and to a lesser extent, ADVERTISING AND PRINTING DESIGN RECORDS. Still other publications of an ephemeral nature exist as CATALOGS AND PRICE LISTS.
