Scope and Contents

From the Sub-Group:

The Theodore Watts-Dunton Letter Books section of the Symington Collection consists of letter books recording outgoing letters of Theodore Watts-Dunton. The recipients, indexed at the front of each volume, include artists, authors, publishers, editors, his landlord and several typewriter manufacturers, as well as Swinburne family members. Among the subjects covered are Watts-Dunton's role as a solicitor, literary topics and projects (especially his own and those of Algernon Charles Swinburne), and, occasionally, the attitudes and lifestyle Swinburne, his housemate. At least some of the letters are in the handwriting of a secretary (e.g., Thomas St. Edmund Hake).
