Scope and Contents

Summary: Israel Silvers' narrative of his time serving in the U.S. Christian Commission in 1863 and again in 1864. Transcripts of Silver's journals are included. Also includes the diary, 1853-1886, of Emma Talman Silvers' mother, Lydia Talman, kept at least in part while she lived in Gloucester County. This diary contains brief entries, recorded every few days, with limited information as early as 1850 added at the beginning.
