CAMPAIGN RECORDS, 1970-2008
Dates
- 1970-2008
Scope and Contents
Summary: Campaign files include administrative and press paperwork detailing the inner workings of Lautenberg's senatorial campaigns. These records were used to research issues, to document the positions of opponents, and to prepare for televised and radio transmitted debates and interviews. The materials address topics such as scheduled events, research items for the issue an event addressed, and correspondence between Lautenberg and various government officials. The topics are represented by a variety of communication and media formats, including: emails between office staff; a variety of New Jersey newspapers (originals and copies); campaign promotions, including press releases, transcripts of interviews and speeches; flexi discs mailed to voters; etc. There is a mix of both original materials and copies. Records in the 1982 subseries include materials from 1974 to 1982 detailing political and sociocultural events and issues related to positions that Lautenberg promoted.
This series contains some information that the Senator's office determined was confidential upon its creation. Record containers have maintained the staff confidentiality notes to reflect the office's original organization; however, these materials are no longer confidential, and are available for viewing. Additionally, some records were mislabeled by the office. These instances have been corrected where possible.
