Scope and Contents

Summary: The Judicial Nominations subseries includes materials related to the nomination and/or appointment of various members of government. The majority of the nominations pertain to federal positions. Materials include resumés, correspondence (including letters of reference and support), research, clippings, memos, and notes, as well as questionnaires filled out by candidates.

Some of the positions and courts represented in this subseries include: Attorney General, U.S. Marshall, Ambassador, U.S. Trustee Candidates, Court of International Trade, Federal District Court, Third Circuit Court, Bankruptcy Judges, Assistant Attorney General. There are even files on Supreme Court Clerks. Some additional items present are files related to the judicial vacancy crisis, Hispanics in the judiciary, and the Equal Opportunity Commission.

In addition to individual nomination files, there are also a few files of alphabetized judicial nominations from 1993 to 1995.

Among the prominent persons represented in this subseries are Sonia Sotomayor, Samuel Alito, Katharine Sweeney Hayden, Julio Fuentes, Ronnie White, and Maryanne Trump Barry.
