UNFINISHED WORDLESS NOVEL - BLOCKS FOR PRINTED PLATES
Scope and Contents
Summary:This series consists of eight flat boxes with the 26 wood blocks that were published in Lynd Ward’s Last Unfinished Wordless Novel (New Brunswick, N.J.: New Jersey Book Arts Symposium, 2001), which attempted to organize thematically related engraving blocks that appeared to represent a wordless novel in progress at the artist's death. The editors arranged blocks in a sequence that created a likely story line, but which left gaps that had not yet been filled when Lynd Ward last approached the novel. The order and numbering of the plates printed in that book has been retained, with the resulting gaps in sequence.
Images have been made of the plates published in the book. Each box contains a folder with the images for the blocks in that box.
Conforming to the methodology in Lynd Ward’s Last Unfinished Wordless Novel, measurements are in inches, height x width to nearest ¼ inch.
